When you realize you’re an ACoA

The darkest hour is just before dawn.

Welcome to dawn!
Discovering that ACoA is a thing and a very common thing was one of the best things to happen to me.

But I remember feeling very overwhelmed. Fixing yourself is daunting.

I cried in front of strangers!

But there relief in recognizing that all of my struggles where tied to having grown up with an alcoholic parent and a dysfunctional family system.

This is a journey. Not a quick, overnight repair.

But great progress comes quick when you focus on taking good care of yourself and changing how your brain was programmed.

Once I realized that I needed to help myself – and put the energy and time into focusing on me, my mind cleared and I saw everything around me differently.

Keep a journal. Reflect on your decision making.

Be good to you and celebrate your progress.

Keep going – and keep going when you’ve made progress.

Best wishes to you in this journey.
